(’Tini waqt wieħed biss, translated from Maltese by Alfred Palma)
Just give me one moment
so that together
we’ll run again amongst green carpets
and on soft earthy soil
before tears from your eyelids
clouded the clearest water
and my words hardened
discordant with birds’ song
and the surrounding silence.
Just give me one moment
so that we’d run anew along the beach
kissing the sea so sweetly
sometimes in calm sometimes with heavy surge
and we’ll seek yet together
upon the sand the footsteps
that cannot be rubbed out.
